UpToDate® for pediatricians
UpToDate in Pediatrics was released in February 2005, and the Baylor
College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics made a significant contribution to
that evidence-based point-of-care information service for pediatricians. Editor-in-chief
of UpToDate in Pediatrics is Ralph Feigin, MD, Chairman of the Department
of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and Physician-in-chief at Texas
Children’s Hospital. Many BCM pediatric specialists, including neonatologists, are
authors, and they continue to contribute as topics are added or reviewed and updated.
UpToDate is a comprehensive and current electronic clinical information service
that is available by subscription—a clinical information resource for physicians
providing expert answers to clinical questions that arise at the point of care.
UpToDate in Pediatrics is the latest subspecialty program, written specifically for clinical practitioners and containing in-depth diagnosis and treatment information in all aspects of pediatric medicine.
“Pediatricians today are challenged by larger patient loads and more paperwork, leaving them little time to read the latest medical literature,” said Dr. Feigin. “When a difficult clinical question arises, pediatricians need a timely, relevant resource they can access at the bedside. This is what UpToDate offers.”
UpToDate in Pediatrics is an educational program produced in cooperation with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), an organization of 60,000 physicians dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, and one of nine national medical societies that have recognized the high quality and value of UpToDate. Prominent hospitals across the U.S. have field-tested UpToDate in Pediatrics and its use at those hospitals has grown significantly, an indicator of its early acceptance.
One of the largest collations of medical information, UpToDate is a comprehensive synthesis of the latest medical evidence organized to answer specific clinical questions. As well as providing information about recently published medical findings, the internationally recognized faculty (3,000+ physicians) provides useful, practical guidance on diagnosis and treatments. Material is updated continuously as important new data is published, and every four months an updated version of UpToDate is released in Web, CD-ROM, and PDA formats.
